For what it's worth, the discussion on the reflector has basically been
about low drive to Yaesu xcvrs, but I have had a low drive problem with
my TS-930 since day 1. It has to be open to about 3 o'clock on the input
to the speech processor, which is almost wide open, before I get a decent
(not high) amount of compression. I have the DX element in the old-style
Heil boomset.

This year I operated WPX SSB contest from Taiwan, quite different QTH than
during 3 last years when I've been at PJ9X. Interesting experience, I can tell
that JAs are still there... Station was very good with tribander and 2 el 40 m
beam and IC-765 + IC-4KL amplifier, but lots of noise.
Before the contest I had an opportunity to visit Pratas and I operated there
about an hour on Friday just before BV9P operation was shut down. I worked
some JAs and maybe 50...60 US West coast stations.
During our Easter DX pedition to XX9TZ we logged almost 8000 QSOs. Conditions
were good first but got worse during the pedition with last day being very poor.

Thanks to all for replying. To summarize:
- CT had the Russians correct, with the exception of UA8s, which should be 18.
For UA1P, CT told me 16 rather than 17 as pointed out by N2AA. Thanks for the
current "oblast" list, Tree. I'm still after the previous Soviet call system,
which I think changed in '84. BTW, I've recently worked 4K2s, 4K4s & RC2s as
late as March... can't remember how many month before January some of the new
prefixes started showing up. Good system...
- AD1C's comment made sense - in fact, with or without Shaanxi in there doesn't
change things too much in terms of appearance - which is why I thought that
9M-S should be included, especially since CT agreed. Jim, the info I have is
that Gansu is 9T-Z, instead of 9U-Z. Result: bits of China that are 23 are
all 0s, 3G-L & 9A-L & 9T-Z.
- While Canada does its best to have the most active prefixes at any given
time, it's quickly catching up to the States in terms of geographical
meaninglessness of prefixes. Current state of play: VE9s are NB after 1 Dec
93; VE1s can be NS, PEI or NB; VY2 is PEI; VO1 is NF; VY1 is Yukon & VO2 is
Labrador. Thanks to VE2ZP & VE6SH. I just realized that there's still a bit
of Canada I'm not sure about... Can somebody confirm VE0s are MMs & that both
CY9 & CY0 have been used for Sable, while only CY9 has been used on St Paul?
Finally, to WZ1R, no I wasn't at VS6WO for the WPX SSB. Actually, I haven't
been there since the WW CW two years ago. Steve's been doing some pretty good
efforts, though. Problem I have is that I get bored below two per minute & the
CQ QSO point structure here is leaves a bit to be desired. With fewer sun
spots the rates only get lower & no matter what we do, some 4X4 can blow us
away with a fraction of the effort. Bring on the next cycle, please!
