I think Heil has as fine of customer service and service around. I HAVE a
Yaesu FT1000 and have a replacement set of *FREE* ear pieces which cure a
problem certainly not of *Heil's*.

We ended up with about 75 on 20 and 67 on 40.
Conditions seemed to favor the east coast on 20 (more W6's),
but I think it flipped on 40. The QRN was high here and not
much one hop activity heard. As a low band bigot, this was
an interesting turn of events.
This was my first time on INT and I really appreciated the
work-em-again rule. A couple of times I got caught- would call
someone who was past 3rd qso for me, but not for them !

IMHO, the Yaesu FT-1000D RX audio into a pair of headphones stinks!!
The only headphones that work with a decent level of volume are the
Yaesu YH-77 stereo headphons (hmmm...do I smell a conspiracy?).
The speaker driver is much better but of course that is useless at
best in a contesting environment.

..several responses (12) received re the 75 Ohm CATV line and using it in
a 50 Ohm system...
Many of you said screw it it's close enough to a match as is. Actually
"just use it" was what KY1H said-kinda like just do it/just work it I guess.
After making my posting last night I zonked out-but, wide awake I browsed
through my old NCJ's in search of CATV hardline knowledge...was having a
great time. Looked up the topic in the index I found, and would you know
it, out of what is almost a complete collection, the issue referenced was
missing-arrgh, but enjoyably I thumbed through 20 years worth of NCJ's when
suddenly I found what I remembered seeing...it was in a K1GQ article on
stacking, the November-December 1980 issue, whoa....damn - guess it wasn't
last year afterall-it references an original article in Ham Radio of
September 1978 by Charlie K1XX...who yes, responded as well.
To those of you who remembered what I saw, and enlightened me as to where
I saw it....NCJ of course, mni thanks - also several of you were kind
enough to offer up some commercial solutions including vendor info on
connectors, etc. Again much obliged.
Oh yes, who was first through the pileup....the drink weener is KJ4VH, 46
minutes after my posting-not bad.....followed closely by N4TQO, K1VR, KY1H,
KC2X (GO FLORIDA), K1XX, N6VB, K5ZD (no Randy, not even close-but TNX) and K1DG.
Disqualifications:
K9ZO.......reply: "I have it at home"....jeez is this the first day
of school and ya forgot your pencil, too...will accept your reply but it
will NOT be eligible for a drink, and will be marked down one full letter
grade.
WA6BXH.......NO Sandy- ABSOLUTELY NO GINSU KNIVES AS ALTERNATE

...seriously, thanks to all. This reflector continues to be an invaluable
aid in the design of the station, opinions received are from hams who have
hands-on real world experience and not just techies working from
books...thanks for supporting it Trey.
I have been working with a slightly different connector approach thanks to
tip from W3AU....will post to Reflector or NCJ after I evaluate-looks like

Hey every W in FD is worth 2 points and every VE 3! Slip is a couple of
Russians for Mults and you could have a good showing. Not to mention DX mults
for FD!
Too bad the Russian contest slams packet so much...using packet makes you a
Multi and all Multis are high power.

Operated last hour of sprINT. CONDX here rather poor. Very little 20M,
loudest 20M stn was W5ASP.
40M a little better, but never heard a single W1, W2, or W3.
XE1/AA6RX was rather strong about 0155Z
I told N8EA about sprINT via landline. Joe had 30 Q's.
Why did some names seem to be re-cycled over and over again - and others
disappeared and never heard again? I bet Pete, N4ZR could give us a
mathmatical explanation of the probabilities of a name being re-cycled.
Just couldn't bring myself to deliberately dupe someone.

I have used a Heil set on a Icom 740, 751, 751A and 761- all of them
needed a mic preamp(no matter what value of cap I had in the line) to
