Subject: os/2, windows, cw timing
Message-ID: <T3D40B1w165w@thetech.com>
Further to N6TV's msg about the troubles of cw timing in a multi
tasking environment: I have software for CQP, SS and WPX that is
in both DOS and Windows versions (using QuickBasic, and Visual Basic
respectively). The DOS version sends perfect CW using a timing loop
that simply carries out an arithmetic operation a certain number
of times. The Windows version sends nearly perfect code using the
same technique, but it's hard to prevent an occasional "long" dot or
some other defect, presumably caused by windows.
Do any windows programmers out there know a way to prevent any
interruptions to the program while it's sending, including even locking
out Windows itself? I'd appreciate any advice.
By the way, Bob suggested sending a signal to a PK 232 and letting
it send the code. I tried that in the first version of my program.
It worked, but had two problems: no way that I saw to stop sending
in the middle of a msg short of turning off the PK, and the related
need to send control characters to put it in transmit and
receive modes. It might be worth another try, though, as a way of
preventing multitasking time glitches.
If anyone wants a free copy of the software, just let me know and
I'll be happy to mail a disk (or explain how to transfer files on the
internet, and we could do that). The DOS program is in version 4.5
and Windows in version 2.0. AD6E also has free CQP software available.
