Now that I've learned enough about propagation to know that geo-magnetic storms are a significant source of noise on the HF bands, I find WWV is a bit late in informing us of them. The October issue of SKY & TELESCOPE (p.85) has an article on building a magnetometer to detect the phenomea. The circuit is rather simple, and was designed to provide an Aurora alert.
