I just got a blurb from the Computer Literacy book store in San Jose
and they had a nice summary of Tracy LaQuey's book _The Internet
Companion_. It says:
"Recommended for those fairly new to the world of computing,
including the workd of internetworking! Introduction to the
Internet without ultra-technical parlance. Guides newcomers
to the language, protocols, and etiquette of the Internet
community. Brief background on Internet evolution. Tells
how to hook up to the Internet. Useful notation on how to
send and receive email from other networks. Covers file
transfer, remote login. Also covers LISTSERV, USENET news
groups, online databases and services."
That sums it up pretty well. Required reading for anyone new to email
or who wants to learn a few things about the Internet. One of the hip
things about this Computer Literacy place is that you can email them at
info@clbooks.com -- pretty neat! It doesn't say anything here about
taking orders via email, but they do take orders via phone, fax and
snail mail, in addition to walk-in business.
And it's cheap too! Joe Bob Marconi says "check it out."
