Look, you weenies, if you think Sunday PM is boring now, just wait a few years.
You will have Friday night, Saturday PM, Saturday night and Sunday PM
boredom. Here's a sampling of what a DX contest is like with a solar flux
of 70 from Colorado:
- Nothing but V31, CE, LU on 10 meters.
- No EU on 15 meters. Marginal to no JA on 15 meters.
- 2 hours of EU on 20 meters just after local sunrise.
- Poor EU on 40 - the absorption is too high in the afternoon, and the MUF
is too low at night.
- JA on 40 only at JA sunset and local sunrise. During the rest of the night
the MUF is too low.
- 80 and 160 no better than they are now.
All told, 900 QSO's for a 40+ hour effort by a seasoned, moderate-to-big gun.
(Assuming undisturbed condx).
If you think I am exagerating, you are welcome to look at my 1984-1986 logs.
Shortening the contest to 24 hours will still leave many hours of boredom
with these condx. At least 48 hours gives you a chance to work more stations
during the short openings.
