If you want to split the difference between buying and building,
consider the W5WVO <http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/A50-5S_w5wvo.pdf>
or K9MU <http://www.k9mu.com/a50-5.html> modifications to the A50-5S.
Both versions lengthen the standard A50-5S boom - one to 16 feet, the
other to 17.5 feet - and adjust element length/position appropriately.
The modifications squeezes out about 1.25 dB more gain and greatly
improves the pattern/front to back.

Subject: [Antennaware] Modding the 6M Cushcraft A505S?
I was considering making a 6M Yagi and
still would like to but realising my time constraints with upcoming
ankle/leg surgery this fall, I'm better to buy a turnkey antenna and put it
together on the roof and just be done with it. Until I relocate to a better
place to put up antennas have a tower.
It was suggested to the me that the 5
element Cushcraft A505S is a good choice but I see it has a 1KW limit and I
want something with a 1.5KW limit as I have a 1.5KW King Conversions amp.
Has anyone any experience in converting this antenna into one that takes
1.5KW?
Another option is the five element M2
6M5XHP which works fine with 1.5KW, will fit in the required location, but
costs twice as much as the Cushcraft.
Looking at the $ involved, the Cushcraft, if it can be easily modded to
handle the power, is a much more lucrative option.
I'm pretty sure the M2 is a nicer antenna overall.
Any Idears?

Gary
