we decided to to build one yagi, vertical polarized,
at ground level, and with the half elements buried.
No need to bury half an element. A good ground screen will make for a
virtual element for each element. There was an article a few years ago
about a Brazilian vertical with half of the element in a well. Worked well
(pardon the pun), but looking at the pictures, in the wet season the antenna
was in a swamp so had a very good ground.
