My SB-220 experienced intermittent filament on one 3-500.  I think the problem was that the filament clips gradually lost temper from the conducted heat.  I was able to swap for other clips from the socket and restore functionality.

The 3-400's in my 2K will slowly work there way out of the sockets and
require pushing them back in to get the filament connections restored.
I've tried fixing the pins but I think socket replacement is in order.

Many thanks for the replies, both on and off list. I'll take a harder look at
the socket pins and connections. This is my 3rd Classic series console with
3-500's. The earlier 2 did not have such an issue.

I'll report back what I find.
