Yes, it is not the correct method but it works very well. Even if it
doesn't look nice.
I am not guilty of doing it like that but I've recommended it to people
who have serious challenges doing it the "proper" way
I actually file the four holes with a small round file, to elongate the
4 holes and form a thinner but larger surface of brass to solder to. The
solder flows into the lightly pre-tinned braid a lot easier and joins to
the brass properly.
