I didn't realize that nationwide, solid-state FM transmitters have now
outnumbered tube type but it's not surprising given technological
advancement in high-power LDMOS design despite the industry being loath to
adopt HDFM. Wisconsin Public Radio appears to be the most recent casualty
with their recent decision to revert half their transmitters back to
analog-only.
It would be interesting to look at the statistics. I've been away from
hands-on broadcast engineering for nearly 30 years but still subscribe to
several publications.
