If the amp truly will put out 800W @ 50% efficiency it would take a
minimum of 1600 W input 1600 / 12 = ~133A @ 12 VDC. The numbers given
would indicate near 80% efficiency.
12 VDC @ 85A = 1020W which would give 400W out @ 50% which is still
quite respectable for a mobile.
BUT being that old, it probably uses bipolar transistors
