The real problem is the layout and anode coupling to everything around it,
it is not a tube to be put in the smallest possible enclosure unless it is
plywood!
The added L before the the Tune cap or the normal10M coil tapped by the Tune cap concept has been around since the 30's for the big tubes used in SW Broadcasting. The YC-156 is easy to get on 15M and requires some TLC with the input and output circuitry in order to get good efficiency on 10. Heck, the MRI machines that use it are up at 60 mHz. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff AC0C" <keepwalking188@ac0c.com> To: "Bill Turner" <dezrat@outlook.com>; "Amps group" <amps@contesting.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 9:16 PM Subject: Re: [Amps] new amp race Uh huh. There is Cout that is manageable -- and then there is the YC156. I am pretty sure that anyone who has actually been-there, done-that with this tube - would use the term "easily" in conjunction with the work needed to make that tube and the upper bands play together.73/jeff/ac0c www.ac0c.com alpha-charlie-zero-charlie-----Original Message----- From: Bill TurnerSent: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 6:53 PM To: Amps group Subject: Re: [Amps] new amp race ------------ ORIGINAL MESSAGE ------------(may be snipped) On Tue, 23 May 2017 16:46:59 -0500, you wrote:The second and more seriousissue is the Cout on the YC156 is massive. Getting that tube to run on 20m+takes work. It can be done but it is a challenge even if you have serious skills and time. Of course on 40m & below, the Cout is not a problem. 73/jeff/ac0cREPLY: Easily fixed with the L-network described in any recent ARRL handbook in the amplifiers section. Requires just one small coil in the plate lead and like magic, the Cout problem is gone. 73, Bill W6WRT _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.comhttp://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps |
