Greetings and salutations,
Last week I was worked by a gentleman in the south. He had an incredible
signal and the highest quality sound I have heard on the air. Of course I
asked him of his equipment. He told me he was working me with a Kenwood
2000XB5 and a colored amp running full legal limit plus 500 watts. I was a
bit taken back by this term "colored amp". Upon some detailed research I
came upon an article in Ebony Magazine. It turns out a fine group of African
American ham radio operators/ engineers have designed a small but powerful
amplifier made of chickens, hog jowls, pickled herring and hickory smoked
bacon. They are driving a pair of 6L6's with a hybrid wish bone type
resonant "chicken coil". Me being a farmer. I tried to replicate the
circuit. I was not successful in even getting a chicken to resonate. Not
before electrocuting six of my finest laying hens. It has given me new
meaning to the term "fried chicken". Has anyone else in this group heard of
such a thing? Or maybe have any ideas on the matter? 73's and 88's - Elmer
