With a quality mil spec RG-58A there should be no problem as Ive hipotted to
5000V and have to agree with Jim.
RG-58A has a stranded center conductor and is very flexible and Ive used for
almost 25 years at 3500V. Maybe I should replace it to be safe with a new
length.

Hi Jim,Thanks for reply. I will give a try for the chinese connectors. I am afraidof RG58, as by it specs its limit is 1900VRMS. 73, Felipe Ceglia - PY1NB ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PR1T team member /// Rio DX Group member /// Araucaria DX Group member http://dxwatch.com /// http://reversebeacon.net /// http://riodxgroup.com On Wed, Feb 13, 2013 at 5:17 PM, Jim Garland <4cx250b@miamioh.edu> wrote:Felipe, I think those connectors (reverse-polarity SHV-BNC) are intended for RG6,which I believe may be a larger diameter than RG142 (but more flexible). Ithink RG6 Quad Shield is very high quality (and inexpensive) coax and shouldwork fine. I've bought several of the Chinese connectors and compared them with Kings Electronics connectors, which are ten times the price, and findthe quality to be quite comparable. In general, I think the mechanicalquality of the connector is more important than the dielectric strength ofthe cable for voltages less than 5 KV. For instance, I've been using MHV connectors (now obsolete, with a lower voltage rating) with ordinary RG58 cable for twenty-five years with my 8877 amp and it has handled 4700V perfectly well. 73, Jim W8ZR > -----Original Message----- > From: Amps [mailto:amps-bounces@contesting.com] On Behalf Of PY1NB - Felipe Ceglia > Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2013 8:46 AM > To: amps@contesting.com > Subject: [Amps] SHV connectors... > > Hi folks, >> I cannot find any reasonable priced source for RG8 sized SHV > connectors.> > The fair priced are these ones, from a chinese online store: > http://www.rfsupplier.com/straight-plug-crimp-5000v-cable-p-1684.html > http://www.rfsupplier.com/high-voltage-solder-bulkhead-jack-connector-p-1685 .html > > For a 4.5kv@1a dc power supply, should I use this connector and RG142 > cable? > > 73, > > > Felipe Ceglia - PY1NB > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------- > PR1T team member /// Rio DX Group member /// Araucaria DX Group member > http://dxwatch.com /// http://reversebeacon.net /// http://riodxgroup.com > _______________________________________________ > Amps mailing list > Amps@contesting.com > http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps_______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps ----- No virus found in this message.
