Not if you want CDE 381LX series. There are many cheaper Snap-In types which
will not handle the high ripple current for long.
I certainly dont understand going to a differnt cap that means a rework of the board when Ameritron has perfectly suitable US made replacements. They are rated 85 deg. C so if you want 105 deg caps you might pay more. But the snap in types are available much more cheaply.Vic k2vco Sent from my phoneOn Nov 11, 2012, at 7:46 AM, "Gary \"Joe\" Mayfield" <gary_mayfield@hotmail.com> wrote:Thanks to all of the kind replies. A little research has helped me figureout what is going on. If you try to track down the caps with screwterminals (like came in the amp) they are VERY expensive, even from Mouseror Digikey.I have decided to take the project on myself (eventually) and use the much cheaper 'snap in' style caps. It will be a while before I even start, but Iwill keep the group posted. Thanks Again and 73, Joe kk0sdA little over a year ago I acquired a working Ten Tec Titan 425. It spent a year in the closet as I had nothing to load it into. I finally got the newantenna up and turned on the amplifier. After about 30 minutes the fuses popped and the amp was dead.I took it to Burghardt Radio Repair and Jim said the transformer was good, but most of the rest of the supply was toast. I believe him as he has always been fair and square with me.He said there was a mod that added another diode to each leg of the bridge that probably would have saved me. I paid him for the diagnosis and broughtthe amp and supply home. The bad news is the caps alone are around $800.Other parts, labor and I am probably looking at $1200 or more. I don't have that kind of cash and if I did I'm not sure this would be the most effectiveway to spend it. So, I am trying to figure out my options. Any suggestions?
