I am not sure of the metallurgical issues, but a year ago I uncovered half
a spool of New York Solder Company rosin core solder (60/40) I had
purchased over 40 years ago and tried to use it. The solder wouldn't melt
with my gun. It would just soften and crumble. Wouldn't work with a torch
either. I used to use this stuff all the time as it worked well and cost
1/3 less then Kester. The rosin melted into the usual brown stuff. --Mike,
