Perhaps a bad attitude, but I for one appreciate lower drive 
requirements for
high(er) duty-cycle modes. (RTTY, SSTV, AM ...) Let's not give that up 
for fear of
overdrive damage - a front-panel mode switch with a 3dB 50+ watt 
attenuator could
serve both needs.
