How to not baby the amp is to underload the tuning - operating it with a big
dip of plate current, thinking that it will be easy on the finals. This is
a terrible thing to do. High voltage will likely develp that destroy
swtiches and encourage arcs.

Always peak and load until the power output drops slightly. In other words,
the plate current dip should be very slight. If you want to reduce power,
then reduce drive.

More than one amplifier has been damaged by "under" tuning the amplifier.
And, when the sparks fly, it is blamed on parasitics.

Talk softly and carry a big amp.
