You can measure the breakdown Voltage with a scope, ac power supply and a
resistor.
The "PIV RATING" is a breakdown Voltage that their products shall not fall
below.
40 years ago I measured many 1N4001's (50 Volt at 1 Amp.) and most broke down
around 155 Volts.
