I just did the test several people had hypothesized about in the past few days and the test was done with 2 different IR thermometers. 1.) Thermometer was aimed at a black anodized aluminum heat sink at 18 deg. C 2.) A 1/2 diameter 100 deg. C air stream was directed across the air gap between the thermometer and the heat sink about 1-2" in front of the thermometer. The air stream did not heat the heat sink or the thermometer directly. 3.) The temperature measured by the thermometer rose about 1-2 deg. C. One thermometer was a close focus thermometer with the distance from the thermometer to the heat sink of about 1.5" and the other was a more standard IR thermometer with the distance of about 12". This test shows that the actual air temperature between the thermometer and the object being measured has very little effect. 73, Larry, W0QE _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps |
