Well, this thread seems to have covered a great range of topics
regarding home brew etc...One thing sticks out prominently and that is
sourcing of components...In my experience this is not all that hard if
you are prepared to do the hard miles and also pay reasonable
money....We are all wanting to do things on the cheap but in my
experience unless you are lucky some of those supposed "bargains" aren't
always bargains...
I picked up 10 Jennings 5-500pf vac caps a few years ago for $1
each...That is the exception...For most hams who want an amplifier,
either buy new or take your chance on a well used unit....Home brewing
amplifiers isn't something that should be attempted without some
experience around high voltage etc...Better still if you have a ham
buddy with that experience who can assist and make certain that all
safety guidelines are followed...
For the rest of us who have at least some experience, then I guess we
are lucky to have that experience and can at least help others who may
want to learn the craft....In my opinion nothing is difficult if you
take the time to sit down and properly study and plan your project...To
the newbie home brewer, don't be put off by those negative comments
thrown around by those who only want to enhance their own egos and
superiority on the subject...Ask questions.....That is the only way to
find things out....Sift through the information and you will generally
find the right answers....
