In my quest for a quiet SB-1000, I replaced the fan. The original is a Nidac
TA450AC,
which is rated at 68 cfm and operates on 120vac. I replaced it with an ADDA
AD1212LB3GL-LF
which I got from Mouser Electronics. It's rated 72 cfm, operates on 12v DC,
fits
perfectly, and is *much* quieter. I followed the advice of N5OP and put a piece
of
hardware cloth (1/4" galvanized mesh) between the fan and the chassis to
prevent RF from
disturbing it.

It helped to remove the bolts holding the power transformer and slide it back.
It also
helped (a lot) to glue the nuts in place on the fan before installing it.

Now the remaining noise is a very loud buzz from the transformer. The bolts
holding the
laminations and the transformer mounting are tight.

Does anyone have any ideas about reducing transformer buzz short of buying a
new Hipersil
transformer?
