At least you would be hard pressed to saturate the core!

Back around 1965, I went to the L.A. Dept. of Water and Power surplus  
yard with some friends and we bought a bunch of surplus pole pigs.   
The oil (PCB?) had been removed and they were selling them for the  
scrap value, which was based on the copper price.  I think I paid  
something like $10-15 for a 3 kVA transformer.  W6OSU (later W6ET,  
SK) got a 5 kVA model for an amp he was building with a pair of  
4-1000s.  One non-ham picked one up to rewind to make an arc welder.   
They let us leave the cases behind.
