You also have to consider the advertised plate dissipation versus the real.

Compare the 4-1000A to the older 1000T for instance.

The 1000T had a much smaller plate area and did not use forced air cooling.
Many have said that if the 4x1 was built at the same time it would have had
a 1500W + rating.

In commercial AM BCB service a pair of 4x1's run 5KW out 24/7. And the
plates are only a medium red.

I see no reason that a 4x1 would have any more TVI problems than any other
amp of similar power. Its all in the quality of construction, shielding and
filtering. I built many single and dual 4x1's (and a few 3x1's) over about a
20 year span for customers. That was when several local BCB stations gave me
pulls. TVI was no different than say an Alpha 77.

Yes indeed, 2.5 no problem with the 4 by 1´s. I ran a pair of 4-1000A´s
for 20 years or so, 200W drive gave just about 5000W output on all bands.
Last year I replaced them with a YC-179 however sometimes I do regret
it, the 4 by 1´s was nice.
TVI well maybe, can´t really tell since there are no close neighbours
where I have my radio station. However I do remember that back in the
70´ties I used to have problems with the 7:th harmonic from 14.2 MHz,
we have an FM station on 99.4 MHz you see. The Swedish PTT was quite
upset with me and tried to nail me several times however they never
managed.
