I never could understand the fascination with running a par of 8877s, except
for the bragging rights. My single-tube 77Dx is already capable of far more
output power than authorized by U.S. regulations. From my perspective, the
addition of the second tube only adds to increased maintenance and operating
costs, and needlessly stresses various PS and R.F. components and
connectors. That, plus the fact that trouble-shooting a single-tube amp is
far easier than it is for multi-tube amps.
