If you look at the plate tuning capacitor, you will see what the minimum
spacking needs to be between the top of the tube and the cabinet. If it does
not arc in the cap, it will not arc to the cabinet. Remember, however, that
you 30 pound cat can jump on top of the top and deflect it a bit, so allow
that. Normally, the air goes up, so the spacing for air will not matter too
much.
Or, you can use the rule of thumb. If you can put your thumb between the plate
cap and the cover, that is more than sufficient. Except, how do you get your
thumb in their with the cover on.
And, of course, turn the high voltage off before sticking your thumb in.
