Where can we find diagrams and more detail on these systems you describe?  They 
sound quite interesting.

    In percents, the tolerance does not change, only in absolute value. As it 
happens with a little luck the actual voltage can be closer to 48 V than for 
separate power supplies because you can have higher and lower ones mixed 
together.
    Don't worry too much about having unequal voltages amongst them: ± 1 volt 
won't make much difference provided they all add to 48 V.
