Steve is such a funny guy. John, I've been using Jennings RJ2's here for
that power level. The GIGAVAC units seem to work alright and I have been
using them.
The RJ2 equivalent is reasonably priced and Gigavac wants the ham market.
You can buy up to 5 a year at their ham pricing. They ship out pretty quick
too.
I'm not a QSK guy (steve would prolly say I don't know the code anyway) I
might have forgotten it but I did sit in the FCC office and COPY my code, no
funky questions in 1974. Give me a footswitch SSB or CW.
If a guy needed more power the RF-10B is the only way to go.
For the guys who do QSK, with an RJ1 they make a nice input output setup
that will handle power and QSK solidly past 50 WPM without clipping too
badly.
When you do QSK you shorten the life of them.
IT is possible to ramp up the voltage on the things and key them faster...
I would think eventually they would cook or pound themselves apart.
And yes I have blow'd up a lot of weak and puny things. Now I only use MAN
SIZED stuff.

Then Bonner-DD is your man because he has blown up everything under the sun.
Me, I go with the big glass Kilovacs...

I would love to see a similar discussion (my apology if has already
happened and is in the archives) for hi-rel antenna relays in the
2 KW + range. Not that I plan QRO but I like to build in very high
reliability.
Just what relays are cost effective and reliable at the amp output
side of things. Not necessarily thinking QSK, just something that
could be the antenna relay in the amp or an antenna selection relay.
For instance, what relays are used in the DX Engineering 5KW rated
antenna switch versus what relays are used in their 10KW rated
switch? It would be an education for homebrewers to look up their specs
and see what it takes to get from the 5KW rated world to the 10KW
rated world.
Thanks -- John W0UN
