About 40 years ago, when I was still living with my parents, I had an
end fed random length long wire hooked up to a Johnson Matchbox. I used
it on 40 and 80. About that time, I built my 4-1000 amp and started
running high power for the first time.
I had to be careful not to touch the spiral binding of my log book,
because I'd get RF burns. Late one night, my mother opened the door of
my room and asked what the heck I was doing. The ceiling light in the
hall was switched off, but every time I keyed the rig it would light up
to about half normal brilliance.
I now realize that I had a voltage node right in the shack, and I was
probably lucky it didn't set the house on fire where I had run the wire
through the wall to the outside.
Ah, the innocence of youth!

John, K9MM
