Is your power plant an RS70 BB?
This is the kind that can float a battery charge and
not end up with a thermal runaway.

Well, from my point of view the only good battery is one that's
outdoors! Actually, it wouldn't be *too* hard to drill a hole in the
shack wall and make a little shelter outside, but I'd like to avoid this
if possible. I could of course get another RS-70, but as a typical
ham, I'm looking for the cheapest solution.
