I've just aquired a 15 KV, commercial hipot tester. I've tested a few vacuum
caps, with varying (I think) results.
There doesn't seem to be a list of acceptable values, as far as leakage current
is concerned, easily found.
Several fixed-value vacuum caps tested at their rated voltage with less than
1/10 microamp leakage. A variable cap, rated at 10 KV, shows 2 microamps at
3.5 KV, and that number was fluctulating.
I stopped at that point because I don't know if that figure is high or low.
The unit tests at 0 to 15KV at 2, 20, 200 and 2000 microamps, and has been
recently calibrated.
Is there a commonly-available list of acceptable leakage numbers?
TIA,
Barrie, W7ALW
