My understanding is that some of the miniature tubes had a radioactive source
in them that had alimited half life. This was to ensure starting under dark
conditions. So the actual starting voltage might go high as they get older. How
true all this is I don't know, and I find that the VR105s and VR150s I have
that date back 50 or more years are still within tolerance.
