Don't forget that with a few simple precautions you can wire several 13.8VDC
regulated DC power supplies in series, like batteries, to get a higher output
voltage. For example if you could find 4 cheap used Astron 20amp 13.8VDC
regulated power supplies and wire them in series you would get about 55-56
volts @
20 Amps regulated DC output. Depending on how the power supplies are made you
might want to isolate the chassis from each other and put protective diodes
across each output for reverse-current protection. Probably best to use matched
power supplies if you do this. Or you could build 2 high-current 24-28 volt DC
supplies and wire them in series. Easy to do. Once you get much above 24-28
volts regulated DC the price for off-the-shelf power supply components rapidly
increases. Hard to find a design for a 50 volt regulated power supply either
Linear or especially Switching. 73 Todd WD4NGG.
