Rich:
SPICE is very useful (or almost as good, linear 2 port models) for
predicting behavior in HF as well as at VHF. The components, such as
sockets, chokes, suppressors, large caps and inductors can be quite well
characterized by performing open/short circuited tests and equating to
linear n-ports using a decent bridge such as the Autek. A gain/phase or
2 port analyzer is better, but unnecessary. Once the tank is built, the
modeling effort is even more accurate, and simpler, because it is now a 4
black boxes: input stage, tube, output stage and feedback.
I don't have a 200w transceiver; that's not enough gain.
