Hi, It's me again, the guy with the 1 KW AM transmitter.

Today's question:

All of the interconnect cables on this thing are made of a
cable that I've never seen before. Not too surprising
since it was probably built before I was born.

The cable is solid copper
center conductor surrounded by a dielectric made of an
impregnated wrapped paper type stuff, then there is
a layer of a fabric type stuff. On the outside is
a solid metal shield, not articulated like aluminum
armor cable, but solid metal. The total size is
somewhere between 1/4 and 3/8 inches in diameter.

Wild stuff. If I bend it too much the outside shield
cracks. Is it lead? Aluminum?

I've seen some old shipboard transmitters with lead covered wire.
Lead is much softer than aluminum so you should be able to tell
by pressing a knife blade into it. It will score the lead easily
but not Al.
