I have two TL-922As with all the Measures mods and Kessler QSK and bias
mods . They are stable now, work fine on semi-breakin, and put out 1200
watts. The down side is the output loading cap is under rated, so I
tune up on low voltage, switch to high voltage and leave the tuning
alone. Otherwise I can arc over the load cap. My older Alphas were
work horses, but had no protection circuitry. Bought my Alpha 99 used
for $2500, and could not be happier. Significantly easier to tune up
than my 89. All these amps were significantly cleaner than my IC-4KL
that has found a new home. If you can find a used 99, buy it and keep
it forever.

Hello to all,
I have decided to get a linear, and since I can't afford an Alpha 87 I'm
looking for used. What are some recommendations for a used tube-final amp,
KW or better; doesn't need to be full legal limit, but would take one; that
will work well, reliably, and easily with my new and don't-want-to-ruin-it
FT-1000?
I am mostly thinking SB-220 or Ameritron 811H/80B, but other than referring
to the eHam reviews, what advice can you folks give me? I am interested in
DX and mid-level contesting. That is, not quite a complete weekend, but
about 24 hours of a 48 hour contest, 1000+ QSO's type of contesting.
Thanks,
Brad
