The amplifier with 4 807s was a Gonset 500-W. Grid driven amplifier with 750
volts on the plate and 375 volts on the screen and tuned grid. It had 275
watts PEP output. Not very much by today's standards. I have never seen one.
P&H LA-400 used 4 grounded grid modified 1625s and probably a bit more output
than the 500-W and perhaps cheaper. The LA-400 used ARC-5 parts and was in a
case that matched the CE-20A and a fair match to the 75A4. The P&H LA-400 was
smaller and lighter than the 500-W which is the size of a DX-100.
My guess is that the 500-W did not make it in the market very long. It is in
December 1954 QST page 41-42 and an ads on page 86 and 111. Price was $395. I
think the P&H and a similar product by Lake Shore were a bit cheaper.
