Jim, to insure you are using the proper amount of inductance for each band
first make sure you know what is recommended via one of the Handbooks. If you
have an inductance meter you can preset the amount of inductance required for
each band and note the readings on a turns counter. Using a roller inductor
without a turns counter is like walking in the dark. If you don't have access
to an inductance meter you can calculate very closely the number of turns
needed using several formulas based on the diameter in inches, length in
inches, and number of turns-per-inch of the coil. But I would really
recommend you get an inductance meter - it is a very useful piece of test
equipment. If you are concerned about harmonic suppression use a Pi-L tank
circuit within a properly shielded enclosure for better harmonic suppression.
