Class of operation is contingent parameter. In Class B or C service for FM
broadcast, this tube can typically deliver 2600 watts
(See http://www.eimac.com/catalog/168423.htm ).

During my college days as a chief engineer for an FM station in Rockford,
Illinois, I used to service an AEL model FM-2.5K broadcast
transmitter with only one 8877. It's licensed transmitter output power was
2250 watts and ran 7/24 service into an ERI 3-bay
circularly-polarized roto-tillar antenna. This was during the days of the
infamous filament contamination period. I once went
through close to ten 8877s with Richardson Electronics before I found one that
would work. An Eimac engineer by the name of Ken
Atkinson was the only one who believed that the problem was with the tubes and
not the transmitter, or me...the engineer. It was
one of the painful but educational experiences of my life.
