Carbon and carbon film resistors should never be used in 
equalizing resistors, or as voltage divider resistances.

Carbon resistors have a tendency to cycle through very large 
resistance changes with exposure to heat, at times drifting up and 
at times drifting down in value.

Use metal film or wire wound resistors, and they certainly don't 
need to be "non-inductive" types! After all, they are operating at DC.
