It has to be long enough to dissipate some energy from the
Clipperton's cathode. It terminates the input of the PA by
presenting a somewhat low impedance on every frequency around
ten meters, and absorbs and dissipates a little bit of the unwanted
feedback from anode back to cathode.
Every little thing helps when the amp is on the edge of stability.
The problem is on some frequency, the radio no longer looks like
any kind of load for the input, so feedback can get pretty high.
