To anyone who cares:
I think I have found the problem with my amp and why the RF appears not
to be getting to the tube!
I installed Rich's grid fusing circuit on the control grid. Basically it
consists of a 30 Ohm resistor in parallel with two 470 pF bypass caps.
Anyhow, the fuse resistor did its job and blew during the problems with
the gassy tube. So the control grid of the tube is no longer grounded.
Without it being grounded, the grid is acting to block the RF coming into
the tube.
Now, I hope that this situation caused no damages to the tubes I put in.
I don't think so since I wasn't drawing any grid or screen current and
minimal plate current.
I wish I'd have checked it yesterday!
