Thanks to Merit, W6NQ, for sharing real experience with 3-500Z triode
returns at RF Parts. Sometimes here-say 'shoot from the hip' comments gets
out of hand, and a particular brand gets a bad rap. Then again, some
deserve it. But they all seem to be about the same, as regards to %
returns.
We use the 3-400Z in a particular plate modulator, and since 1992 have
probably gone through 20 tubes, with very few failures other than loss of
emission over time. They are not running RF, but pulsed DC.
Did you know the secret at Los Alamos? The intelligence gathering moles
from the Peoples Republic of China thought they were getting some top
secret technology, when actually it was some burnt 3-400s that had been
tossed. They got the description wrong, thermionic - not thermonuclear.
You'd think they could make better copies now.
