I just picked up a "POWERTROL" unit that is rated 0 - 240 VAC, 1200 =
watts. I though it was a POWERSTAT type of Variac, as I purchased it =
sight unseen. When I received it, I noticed it was not very heavy =
compared to my other Variac. I opened it and it is a TRIAC unit. Built =
very nicely; has metering, calibrated % adjustment control on front =
panel, On/Off/100% switch (BTW it looks like
the power switch for an L4B) and the cabinet is built as a heatsink, =
fins and all.

My questions;
1. Has anyone ever used a TRIAC Unit to bring up an Amplifier to reform =
the Capacitors.?
2. Does anyone know of any circumstances that I should use only the =
wire-wound VARIAC
and not a TRIAC unit.?

Your answers could save me a lot of grief later.

Thanks,

Monty/WB5GLB
