Most (if not all) of the single to 3 phase converters are for short duty
applications. The 2 phase to 3 phase, I don't know. It might work with 2
caps, worth trying, but keep an eye on the temp. Needless to say, they need
to be paper/plastic dielectric - motor start electrolytics will probably
blow.
For general info, country areas in the UK quite often have 2 phase supplies
- 2 of the 3 phases are brought around with a grounded neutral. The feed
for where I am is an 11Kv overhead 3 phase line, which feeds a 3 phase pole
mounted transformer. 2 phases and neutral are brought off the xfmr, and
distributed around the 4 dwellings - I'm at the end of the line. One of the
dwellings is an old people's home, and recent expansion there means they may
well have to have 3 phases, but they're at the line end nearest the pole
xfmr. Incidentally, the UK doesn't ever seem to have gone in for 3 single
phase pole pigs like the US does.
