[AMPS] Icom IF filters

I recently bought an ICOM-746 which comes with ceramic IF filters for
the 9MHz IF (15KHz bw, 2.4KHz bw), and 455KHz IF (15KHz bw, 9KHz bw,
2.4KHz bw). ICOM has optional crystal filters which I can add (2 at the
9MHz IF, and 1 at the 455kHz IF).
Does adding the crystal filters generally make a marked improvement?
What bandwidth filter is real good SSB? Which IF should I get filter(s)
for etc.
