In linear operation there has to be a compromise between output power and
IMD. According to a former Eimac employee [*] there was always a struggle
between the engineers and the marketeers over the "typical" operating
conditions that would appear in the datasheets.

We can be guided by the datasheets but we can also do our own measurements
and our own thinking. It's also worth noting that some of those datasheets
are now 30+ years old, and many amateurs now have better test equipment
than even Eimac had at the time.

On the other hand, when it comes to "absolute maximum" ratings we should
still listen to the people who have the largest collection of failure
statistics, and that's usually the tube manufacturers.

[*] Not anybody on Rich's "Most Wanted" list :-)
