Hi Court,

The reasons why? Six I can think of....

1.) COST
2.) Reliability
3.) COST
4.) Noise and RFI
5.) Cost   
6.) Ease of service

With solid state PA's (they're coming faster than you might think 
now) switchers might be useful, but not for vacuum tube PA's.
