Comments:
This was my first ever RTTY Contest. In fact, I have made only 2 previous RTTY
Contacts when I was initially installing MMTTY this past summer. Last week I
was getting N1MM lined up for RTTY, anticipating the ARRL RTTY Roundup in early
January, when I realized this OK RTTY Contest was this weekend. This was very
good because I was never able to see any RTTY traffic on the air to set up on.
I actually had no real plans to operate in the contest but just to use the
signals to set up my software. But then the more I got into it I said, “what
the heck.” I was kinda sick anyway and couldn’t go anywhere so I dove in.
I mostly did S&P but even did a few runs. I still need to watch a pro
operate this or at least a You-Tube Pro. Jerry, W1IE, and I were the only
Central Virginia PVRCers on as far as I can tell. He was, as usual, in the
stratosphere ahead of me! I never heard/saw him but did see a spot for him on
the bandmap once and he was piling up points on ContestOnline. I spent quite a
bit of my available time working on the myriad of settings to get everything
working correctly. It was fun, I learned a lot and I didn’t come in last so
I’m calling it a successful venture.
